A private college in Kansas considers me in-state for tuition purposes. While I would prefer to obtain my degree at the University of Kansas and proudly proclaim “Rock Chalk Jayhawk”, financially the university forces me to seriously consider changing institutions in order to refrain from suffocating in unnecessary debt. The American dream is dependent on higher education and when our own state gives in-state tuition breaks to “...people without lawful immigration status...” and yet demands lawful citizens pay out-of state rates, more Americans, specifically in Kansas will continue to be unable to manage the cost of attending their state sponsored university system to reach their
