His military spending made his treasury decrease size quite quickly causing him to have to reinstate the taxes he previously removed. Frederick believed in the fact that “the fundamental role of the government is the principle of extending their territories” that is a partial reason to why he spent so much on his military. Although he always tried to make taxes less for his people he did not like them enough to cut down his military spending because he was more concerned about his image and the goal of his government. He was liked because part of the taxes he collected where spent on draining swamps to build farms, modernized the army, and important many different crops. Frederick the Great was of the idea that he as a leader must act fatherly towards his people. Despite of this idea he still had strict laws for his common people. And treated them as less equal and a corrupt people. An quote he said was “my people and I have come to an agreement which satisfies us both.
