Frederick Taylor Winslow is a very fascinating person due to his invention of scientific management theory. Scientific Management was introduced in the early 1900s. Taylor desired to create a management practice, which would increase the workers efficiency in the work placements. (pp 132, Schermerhorn, Osborn, Uhl-Bien and Hunt) Therefore his needs established the scientific management theory, which is still used in many organisations worldwide.

A theory is defined as an idea that provides various facts about a specific topic or a situation. It offers reasonable explanations about the causes and the effects that may occur within the topic. A theory allows scientists to make predictions in order to establish if the theory is true or false.

He was a theorist who decided to approach the idea of seeking efficiency in the work placement. As he released that the workers are required to have the correct tools and a working plan in order to work efficiently. Therefore he established a method for arranging jobs, which he called scientific management. Taylor believed that all the workers are motivated by the amount of money they earn from their jobs. Due to this the employees would perform faster and harder in order to earn as much money as they could. Therefore he supported the incentive pay systems in the work environment. (Griffin and Moorhead, pp 92) Taylor clearly understood the human behaviour, as he believed that most of the workers found their jobs unpleasant. Even though the workers disliked their working days, they would still perform their tasks, as the money that they earned was a lot more important than their job environment. Many worldwide companies still apply the scientific management in their business. One of the companies that still use Taylor’s invention would be McDonalds. McDonalds is the most popular and valuable brand, which holds the biggest chain of fast food restaurants. It contains more than 35,000 restaurants around the world, which serve almost 70 million people every day. This fast food business has applied the scientific methods in order to operate their business around the world. McDonalds applied three types of scientific management principles into their business, such as the system of rewards in order for the employees to reach their goals. As Quick Nelson (pp 455) stated that the employees will work harder if they receive a bigger pay for their job, as they are more motivated.
