Franklin Delano Roosevelt was chosen as one of the top ten greatest American by Discovery Channel in 2005. As one of the greatest American, the actions and policies taken by Roosevelt had many parallels with Niccolo Machiavelli’s political philosophy. Roosevelt is known by his initials FDR and he served as the 32nd President of United States as an American statesman and a political leader. Roosevelt had the lonegest tenure of United States presisdent record for four elections and served from March 1933 untill his death April 12, 1945. Roosevelt was the central figure in world events during the mid 20th century by leading the United States through worldwide economic depression and World War II.
Roosevelt easily fits into the political climate surrounding him. Roosevelt’s parents were members of the New York aristocracy and Roosevelt was well educated. When Roosevelt studied at the elite private school in Massachusetts, Groton, he was instilling a strong sense of civic responsibility by the head of the school, Endicott Peabody. After graduated from the elite private school , he went to Harvard University. In Harvard University, he spent most of his time on social activities and became the president of the campus newspaper.
