Four Conditions Of Observational Learning

Observational learning is defined in our book as “resulting from people observing and modeling behavior of others and noting the consequences of that behavior”. It is also known as social learning theory. Observational learning can affect the persons life, but they can also learn from it. There are four conditions for observational learning that I will be going through along with how my personal upbringing has been affected by observational learning. The first condition is attention. In our book it states that the observer must attend to the model. For this to occur the person needs to be paying attention to what the model’s behavior is. This can be a positive or negative depending on what is being observed. The observer will imitate what they have seen from the model that they are observing. For example, bullying, talent, popularity or whatever the observer finds desirable. For example: Susie and Erin are going to school and have math together, and Susie sees that Erin is studying extra hard for an exam coming …show more content…
Observing my parents being abusive to not only each other but to us children, I learned and observed why that behavior is wrong and why not to act on that behavior. I did also learn to be responsible for money as well. Because growing up my father made us children work and pay for all our school supplies, clothes and anything that we wanted and or needed. So this did help me as an adult to manage my money responsibly. Both my parents are smokers, seeing them smoke as a child I feel influenced me to start smoking when I was about 15 years old. I am now 31 and have tried to quit smoking many times, I have currently been free from smoking since December of 2017. Both my parents were also into drugs and seeing what they put themselves through was enough to keep me drug free. My childhood was far from ideal, but it sure has shaped me into the hard-working person I have become
