Organizational Security Program Essay

An organizational security program is created by an organization to maintain a certain security level. It is designed and used to organize, monitor, and control the security measures in place. These security measures protect the organizations assets from loss or harm (Kovacich & Halibozek, 2003). The legal environment of an organization consist of laws, regulations and policies. To insure the proper protection of information, organizational policies must comply with the laws, regulations and policies of the federal, state, local or tribal governments. Altogether, the organizations security program and legal environment should conform to the requirements set by the government in order to insure the best protection of all their assets.

Organizational Security Program

An organizational security plan is managed by the Chief Security Officer (CSO). The CSO plays a leadership role to the program. There are four major components of an organizations security program: physical security, personnel security, information security and special security.

Physical security focuses on access control to buildings or certain areas where asset protection is needed. It

A contingency plan is implemented to address the continuity of operations (COOP) in the event that an occurrence disrupts the organizations ability to operate. Contingency planning is split into three sections; incident response, disaster response and business continuity. Procedures for an incident response plan (IRP) include recording the event and escalating incidents to senior management. A disaster recovery plan (DRP) is implemented during a disaster in order for an organization to resume operation as quickly as possible.
