My host classroom, is second grade classroom in a private school; my host classroom has a total of 23 students; 11 boys and 13 girls. On November 10, 2015 I performed a formative assessments to the classroom. After carefully reeving the formative available assessments, and thinking back on my school experience. And also considering the way I learn which is through hands-on experiences. I used the formative assessment probes pushes and pulls. This probe is the one closely my inquiry topic about magnets. Although ii felt comfortable with my performance, I believe that could have been better prepare if I had more experience in the classroom working with young children. I noticed that the drawing portion of the assessment was the main part that worked very well with the students. I didn’t struggle with behavioral problems or challenging students at all. I learned from this experience that children love to shared their creative side through arts, in this case a draw about magnets was a total success. So from this experience I will always keep in y mind when planning lesson plans to always plan for an art formative assessment.
During the assessment I noticed the children really paying attention; and always wonder if they do because I am doing really well or it may be their teacher’s directions. I felt very nervous managing the large group of students. But the formative assessment was very easy after all the children really engaged in the friendly question. For example, formative assessments provide students feedback about the learning subject. And also formative assessments are crucial in the learning process, because it gives knowledge to the educator about what each student needs in order to learn the topic. I also learned that collecting data through a formative assessment is a wonderful way to keep and record data of children learning process.
