7. Practice

As much as I would love to say, now just go read the next book in the series, I can not. You need time to work on the skills needed to tackle the bigger issues. So I have put together some work sheets of sorts to help you evaluate where you are with anger and forgiveness and decide where you want to be.

$#$#1$#$# is a skill that needs to be practiced. I am hopeful that each of you really tries the experiment with the marbles. I do it at least twice a year to remind me of burdens I choose to carry.

The truth is there is no right or wrong answer because forgiveness is a choice and it happens in different degrees. No one can force you to forgive and some may even say that forgiveness is a dangerous step. Maybe these little worksheets and exercises will help you form your own strategies to invite more forgiveness into your life. Every day he cleans around the kitchen with a sponge and then leaves it in a dishpan with just enough water to rot the thing and make the scrubby side fall off. Cheri seems to do this thing that annoys me every day. - Yes there might be more than 1 and yet it has to begin somewhere. 2. Cheri calls at least three times a day to complain about her family members that are mean to her or do not appreciate her. By the last call, I tend to say, tell them, not me. She gets angry and hangs up. Cheri seems to do this thing that annoys me every day. - Yes there might be more than 1 and yet it has to begin somewhere. 3. The phone number for the house phone is unpublished. If it rings, it needs to be answered. Justin, Terry and James refuse to answer the phone. Family is angry because they can not reach us. Will annoyance number 1 make a major difference in my life next year? If the answer is yes, what differences will it make? Yes. A package of sponges (that he picks out) is $3.22. The possibility of forgiveness depends on the people involved and the situation. Some people believe in the common saying “forgive and forget” and live up to it, but others never forgive people for their wrong-doings and definitely don’t forget. In the book Sunflower, the main character, Simon, was not able to forgive the SS officer for his participation in the torturing of the Jews during the Holocaust. This is understandable considering that the Simon was an imprisoned Jew himself. It would have been possible to forgive the dying man, but it was unlikely for the Jew to do so, and he didn’t.…

It would require a great deal of practice and patience, but I believe I could accomplish the state of mind and emotion referred to as "radical forgiveness". For many years I responded to situations as a victim, believing I wasn't good enough or blaming others for my choices. As an adult, I try to assume responsibility but old habits die hard and it is a struggle at times to push the victim away. When I consciously choose to not be a victim it is empowering.…

In some instances such as physical abuse and molestation of infants and young children forgiveness may seem unattainable, but it is always possible. The next story I am going to tell you about is of an abusive relationship between a father, Patrick, and his daughter, Maeve. When Maeve was nine, her father “came into the bathroom when she was showering and had her perform oral sex on him” (72). You should always remember forgiving does not mean forgetting, it means letting go of the hurt. A wound is never going to heal if you keep touching it, this means to let go of what has been bothering you and instead of holding a grudge, take that time and spend it on treating yourself, you deserve that peace. This is just one of the many examples of how not forgiving can hurt you a lot more than you think. Forgiveness will set you free. Forgiveness is for the strong, it shows how much strength you have, and how you managed to pull through a hard time.…
