The Interlopers has a fair sense of irony, foreshadowing and suspense. It has many examples of quirk of fate. The story states a man named Ulrich had been fighting with another man named Georg over a small piece of nature; it just so happened, nature had caused this conflict and had also, later in the story, caused their deaths. This same piece of land was completely useless for anything, but it was the most guarded. At the end of the story, one would expect peace to come, but instead they get tragedy. In both stories, the biting wit is related to death. It shows great detail on Louise’s life, but not on her death, and likewise, the other story sheds light in detail on Ulrich’s and Georg’s life, but not on their deaths. The foreshadowing in each story has a few things in common. The people’s heart conditions foresaw their deaths and the stopping of the storm in each story foresaw the calming and hope each character felt right afterwards. There are multiple differences though, but only a few will be discussed. While in one story there is peace, in the other there is chaos. While a tree falling on the men represented their trapped hearts, Louise sees blue. This proved her heart was being release from the bondage it was in. The suspense in both stories deal with death and show all three characters are sought out from something. Parts in both stories have ironically different areas of suspense.
