VII. Synthesis Crime detection is made possible through the use forensics. Forensic chemistry is an application of chemistry, which helps identify the nature and composition of a substance. Through processes such as the color test, microcrystalline test and gas chromatography, an unknown substance may be identified. The application of these processes in forensic chemistry is necessary to correctly identify the crime committed so that the punishment given will be commensurate to the crime committed. This being said, forensic drug chemistry plays an important role in the criminal justice system.
