Food insecurity is a serious public health issue arising from inadequate and insecure access to food due to financial constraints. In recent years, great attention is paid to monitoring poverty indicators of Canada’s aging population. Between 2005 and 2015 the percentage of seniors living in poverty grew from 12 to 14.5 percent. Although seniors receive guaranteed annual income through public pensions, varying household and neighbourhood characteristics pose a risk to food security that may arise with growing poverty among seniors.
