I think we have convinced ourselves that it is cheaper to eat at Wendy’s or McDonald’s than to go to the grocery store and buy real food. You have to look at the factors of buying fast food. You have the cost of gas there and back, and cost of the meal for either yourself or family members. Maybe if every time you ate out, you bought a burger off the dollar menu and got a water. Ok that might run you 2 dollars at the most. Ok but now add that cost for a family of 4 it starts to add up. In reality when people eat out most people get a combo meal, which could run maybe 7 dollars or so. Add 3 other family members to that. That’s a pretty expensive meal for the family. If you buy organic food at the store that can also run up a bill, but instead of buying 4 combo meals at a fast food place you could actually save money buying stuff to make sandwiches at home, while possibly getting more nutrition from your sandwich than a big mac. Paying a couple extra dollars to eat better may cut down on medical cost
