Foix castle was built at the end of the 10th century or the begining of the 11th century
The event tries to recreate at least some aspects of the life at the castle in the middle ages, when Foix and its region were a strong earldom, many times defiant of the royal power of Paris - like during the times of the albigensian crusade when Foix castle became a hiding place of the persecuted cathars.
The medieval times in the southwest of France were troubled times of war but also the times of troubadours, poets and composers who were writing romantic songs, known as lais, in the local language called "langue d'oc" or Provençal celebrating
