Looking at the Fair Labor Standards Act Prior to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) earning enough money to support a family was very hard. At this time, employers could pay their workers whatever they pleased. This resulted in whole families, including the children, working long hours in terrible conditions for barely enough money to survive. Today the FLSA protects workers from employers who only seek to exploit them. It establishes a minimum wage, overtime pay, and equal pay. It also regulates what age minors are allowed to work and the types of jobs they are allowed to do. The following elaborates on how the history of this regulation and the regulation itself have impacted modern day employment.
