A list of the top 30 safest places to live in Florida was recently compiled by Alarm System Reviews, which used data from the FBI’s latest annual Uniform Crime Report.
Several Brevard County beachside communities made the list, including Melbourne Beach (13th), Satellite Beach (20th), and Indian Harbour Beach (27th). The study gives the key facts for the communities, including property crime rates and violent crime rates.
The highest-ranking town to live in the state of Florida was judged to be Indian River Shores, which is north of Vero Beach between the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. Other keys facts include: Population: 3,145; Violent Crime Rates (per 1,000): 0.3; Property Crime Rates (per 1,000): 11.8.

The next Brevard town to make the list is Satellite Beach, ranked number 20. Satellite Beach is a barrier island bordered by the Indian River and the Atlantic Ocean. It is considered part of the South Beaches, and offers both ocean and river frontage. The town has the largest beach side in the county, with over 7.7 miles of shoreline.
Other key facts for Satellite Beach include: Population: 10,384; Violent Crime Rates (per 1,000): 1.2; Property Crime Rates (per 1,000): 13.1.
Indian Harbour Beach, ranked number 27 on the list, is the first and only community along the United States’ East Coast to be listed as an NOAA Tsunami Ready community. The key facts on the report for Indian Harbour Beach include: Population: 8,308; Violent Crime Rates (per 1,000): 0.6; Property Crime Rates (per 1,000): 15.4.
