As much as society would like to think that we have progress in our tolerance there is still work to be done. There are still social injustices that happen every day that prevent people in their pursuit of happiness. Simply put it, there is no excuse for these social injustices and there never was. If our society is ever to become completely tolerant of all than the world will truly be a better place. However, with that being said, honesty is also an admiral quality to have as well. The biggest flaw in today’s political correctness is not exposing the injustices of today. Not speaking and debating our own flaws as a society is blinding and a prime example of propaganda. The best example of this hypocrisy was when Omar Mahmood, a student for the University of Michigan, wrote a satirical piece for his school paper, The Michigan Review, about the overly politically correct movement. By speaking out his opinion, overly politically correct students complained enough to get him laid off from his school newspaper, The Michigan Daily, and as a result, Mahmood became unemployed. Not only did these people get this young man fired but they then proceed to “vandalize Mahmood’s doorway” and left notes by his door saying “Everyone hates you, you violent prick.” (Lukianoff & Haidt). Which is the height of this movement’s hypocrisy. Omar Mahmood has done nothing except voice his opinion on a newspaper column yet he was meet by a student body that called him a “violent prick” while at the same time having that same student body commit the violent crime of vandalism against him. Actions like this really show a movements true colors and these type of actions show that this movement is led by a group of uneducated, narcissistic, hypocrites. These people care only about themselves. They couldn’t care less if they take away someone’s freedom of speech or their pursuit of happiness because they disagreed with something someone said and because of that, that person must be punished which is the
