Each crisp morning, Fork Union cadets line up to pay respect to our country’s flag. We march company by company onto the circle sitting before Hatcher Hall. After a whole year, starting every school day off with this circle formation has simply turned into part of our everyday routine. We line up outside of each company’s doors into each floor’s separate platoons, with day students attaching themselves to the end of each evenly. Our company commander takes charge with the company TAC officer looking over their shoulder. We all wait expectantly for our commander’s order. “Forward March!” We move towards the circle, stepping in unison. Looking up I see two cadets with the flag in their hands.
