Purpose for Evaluation:
Diante Helton is a current freshman progressing into his second semester at Middle Tennessee State University. He strolled into my advising office because he had a few curious questions about the way he values his time and education at MTSU. Choosing a major, finding a good way to study, and time management are some of the obstacles he is facing. Although he has passing grades, he doesn’t feel that he is reaching his full potential in academics. He feels that procrastination is his biggest enemy. He is highly satisfied with his social life, he meets new friends almost every day, and he enjoys socializing with his friends on the weekend. Although Diante didn’t …show more content…
Helton has always been a great student inside the classroom. From middle school to high school he always took honors classes. His parents pushed Helton excel in the classroom and achieve grades of A’s and B’s. In his middle school graduation, he was ranked in the Top 10 of his graduating class. He was awarded a gold medal to signify his high GPA along with the 10 other students that were on stage. So it was no question that he would go to high school where he could learn even more. He would attend Overton High School the following summer and that’s where he began to slack. He was so busy trying to fit in with students he had never seen before his GPA average dropped from a 4.0 to a 3.0. His parents were upset with his performance. They knew things were going wrong once they started to see C’s on his report card. But his grades started to improve once his parents had a talk about his performance in the class. He finished his high school with a 3.5 GPA. He wasn’t so happy with ACT score though. His highest score was a 19 but he aimed for a 24. He went to all the ACT tutoring programs, he always felt as if they were a waste of his time. He realized that he couldn’t get into his dream school, UT Knox, so he decided MTSU you would be a good …show more content…
His theater appreciation class is at 8 a.m. and he is not a morning person. So he missed a few classes and missed out on some info about important show dates and quizzes that took place in class. And the class only meets one time a week and your attendance is a grade also. So his final grade won’t be so pretty if he doesn’t do good on the final. His psychology class is handful since it is a lecture. And the class sits about 100 students in room and Mr. Helton sits in the back. And his test scores show that he needs a bit of improving. But Diante reported to me that studying is a big factor in the class and he has a problem on how to study and prepare for the test. He also has made the mistake of missing deadlines with online assignments. He never hooked his computer up to the school internet so he rarely uses his computer in his dorm. So he has to travel to his computer lab or the library to finish important
