1 Kings
From the Old Testament, I have chosen to research the book of First Kings. The First Kings was written in the history genre, or as most would recognize it, the narrative genre. The book of First Kings is classified as the history genre, because it provides information in regards to the history of the Old Testament. It tells the history of the Jewish people from the Judges, all the way through the Persian Empire. It is said that Jeremiah wrote the book of First Kings, however, it is also said that it was possible that Ezra and Ezekiel also helped in compiling the book of the First Kings. Jacob was born in 2006 B.C. and died in 1859, at the age of 147. Jacob was born in Beer-lahai-roi, which is between Kadesh and Bered. Jacob was the son who helped with the household duties; he helped cook, take care of his fathers’ flock, and helped with the overall maintaining of the home. Some defining moments in Jacob’s life start when Jacob was send off to live with his uncle Laban. Laban helped Jacob by offering him payment for the work he had been doing, Laban told Jacob to work for seven years and in return he could marry Rachel. However, after seven years, Jacob had a wedding to who he thought was Rachel, however, with a vale was covering the face of Leah, Rachel’s sister. However, a week later he proceeded to marry Rachel, so Jacob essentially had two wives. Jacob had twelve children in total, he took both wives and his children and left, leaving Laban out looking for them. Some of the other biblical characters that are associated with Jacob are his brother Esau, both wives Rachel and Leah, his dad Isaac, and his mother Rebekah. Jacob is known for leaving his homeland and working to receive a wife, he also is known for going against God’s wishes for him, but somehow still seemingly found the right route to take to follow God’s plan.
