Firefighting is known to be one of the most physically demanding jobs in the world. Any firefighter can attest to this statement and it is well known that personal health and wellness are important in the firefighting profession. Demands are placed on the body in several different facets. These include but are not limited to physical, psychological, and sometimes emotional stresses to the human body. Throughout a long firefighting career the stresses can begin to be overwhelming and start to affect the firefighter negatively.

The medical term for a heart attack is known as a myocardial infarction. Typically, in unhealthy adults with cardiac conditions coronary arteries become blocked. The myocardium is then denied oxygen and will ultimately die or infarct. This is condition is commonly known as a heart attack. One of the listed known medical conditions of the victim in the report was Cardiac arrhythmia – left bundle branch block. An electrical current is triggers contractions of the myocardium. The body has its own built in pacemaker known as the sinoatrial (SA) node. The SA node controls the electrical current of the heart much like a pacemaker and in turn controls the rate in which the heart beats. The atrioventricular (AV) node later receives the electrical current and sends the current to the ventricles thru cells known as the AV bundle. This is the area that this victim had a blockage. When this system is healthy and functioning properly the electrical current flow is carried into both ventricles and a synchronized contraction is created this is known as the heart beat. The term cardiac arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat, this victim suffered from the condition, as identified in the report.
