In a society like today, it is extremely important for people to be safe and prepared for anything. Criminals could break into someone’s house, store, or try to rob them on the street. People in those situations would be much safer if they had a firearm. Liberals and anti-gun enthusiasts have twisted the words of the Second Amendment, and claim they want to make America a better place. The truth is if guns were outlawed, the people would just be in more danger. Firearms should not be banned in the United States because civilians have the right to protect themselves, guns are not the cause of crime, and civilians owning guns keeps the government from taking full control over the people.

The government is supposed to be managed by the people,” That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness” (Declaration of Independence (1776)). If the government were to take away guns from the people, they would not only be violating the constitution, they would be violating the American people’s natural right to protect themselves. Furthermore, if the government did take away firearms it would be that much easier for them to take full control of the people, and do whatever they please. Not to say that would happen for sure, but anything is a possibility in this world of uncertainty. And to put the nail in the coffin, if the government took away firearms, and criminals broke into someone’s house, that person would be completely out of luck. The people who do the shooting are the ones to go after, not firearms all together. If a gun is in the hands of a capable, good citizen, they could potentially stop such things from getting worse. Families need guns in their homes for protection against bad people in case of emergency. Gun homicides in recent years have been outnumbered by suicides, according to the Pew Research Center. While that is sad either way, it proves that homicides with guns are not as dangerous to the public as suicidal people.
