So say a school shooting was to take place, the school would into lockdown. Then the shooter gets into a classroom. The teacher has no choice but to fight them in an attempt to save the students. if the teacher were equipped with a fire extinguisher this would be a much more successful attempt. Fire extinguishers are officially filled with potassium bicarbonate and carbon dioxide (CO2), not immediately deadly, but harmful and disarming. According to the Bureau of land Management the symptoms of concentrated inhalation of CO2 are dizziness, heavy breathing, distorted vision, nausea, and in severe cases death. Although on a rare occasion there may be an iniquitous teacher, the vast majority are benevolent people who are willing to save lives. In various deadly situations of the past, teachers have saved lives by the means of a gun. Because a gun was easily accessible, a Missouri teacher stopped a shooter who “killed two students and wounded seven others at a high school” (Malcolm, 2016, p. 6). However, due to current gun-free zones, the likelihood that a teacher has access to a gun is very slim. By providing every teacher with a gun, more situations like that of Missouri would occur, rather than more situations like the Connecticut shooting at…

If a student’s intent on hurting people they would know who would have a gun and how to get it. Also school officials are not the police, they have not been trained for these types of situations and can do more harm than good. The police can respond calmly than someone who is not used to being in these situations. Teachers should not be leaping in and start shooting away trying to fight the attacker, they should be trying to get the students away safely. More guns being fired is not the solution in a mass shooting and would likely bring more casualties and be harmful than intended originally.…
