The fire was coming closer each time, and I got everything that I needed into my hiking bag, I started to run as fast as a panther to get out of the blazing fire which looked like a pathway to hell, my long red baggy pants and my green sweater started to slowly infuse into me since the heat since the blaze from the fire was deadly. My head filled with cloudy thoughts of not knowing which direction to run because of the smoke burning my eyes and that I couldn’t open them. I started to squint even though eyes were flooding with tears, my legs ache but I kept on going trying to find a lake or pond to jump into. I eventually found a large stream of water with powerful currents, but I didn’t even stop to think about the consequences of jumping into the stream since I was in agony. I sprinted and dived into the stream with the sweet relief of knowing that I was safe from death itself with its deadly fire consuming everything in its pathway beside the water. My head started to slowly sink into the waters, and the rays of the sun seemed dim from beneath the briny cold water that suppressed me. My head began to throb and my lungs started to scream for a small breath of the luscious air as I struggled to bring my head above the surface. Despite the many attempts to get a gasp of air my chances of survival seemed fruitless and I continued to descend into the depths. The light started to fade away and it grew feeble as I sunk deeper, and before the last beam of light yielded itself to obscurity, I looked down into the nothingness that engulfed

There could be more than one definition of a beautiful place; they all differ from each other. For example, the sight and sound of ocean waves colliding with each other as they ooze onto the shore of the beach could be a definition of a beautiful place; however, the sight of gleaming city lights with the glowing silver shine of the moon resting in the sky could also be a definition of a beautiful place. Hume Lake Christian Camp is my definition of a beautiful place. It is located in the Sequoia National Forest in Hume, Fresno County, California.…

Kneeling, I tore strips of cloth from my pants and wound them around my bare feet. I made each movement slowly and deliberately, trying to regain my composure. After a few moments, I stood and ran for the glimmering water in the distance. If I could make the river, I could float downstream to camp; if I made it to the river, I would live. As I sprinted into the distance, I heard a noise and I looked behind me.…

It was getting colder by the hour and what seemed to be a small forest turned into an enduring hike. Everyone was exhausted you could see the nervousness and wary in their eyes.
