The article I read is titled “Arts Education Matters: We Know, We Measured It”. This article highlights the importance and benefits of kids with knowledge and experience of the arts. Because of the newly designed common core tests the only thing that matters are,”test scores for math and reading, there 's big dollars attached" for districts. For my public art paper I chose a massive temporary sculpture, Big Bling, made by Martin Puryear located in the heart of Madison Square Park on 23 Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue. Public Art has been with us since the dawn of time back even when the Roman Empire was alive. It has always been around us, reminding us of historical figures, giving us a taste of the world of art itself for those who cannot access it, and simply showing us something that may be pleasing to the eye. Therefore, our local city council should use city funds to pay for a sculpture to be created and placed at the center of our town. It would be beneficial to our community in many ways. Some of us don’t have the time or energy to go to a museum just to look at some art pieces.…

School budgets have been continually reduced ever since the Great Recession began in 2008. States have made deep cuts to school budgets in order to balance their finances, school art programs being some of the most affected. The arts are an extremely vital part of our society and education system.
