F*ck tha Police is a single that critiques law-enforcement by showing the police as a mockery. The song protests, police brutality and racial profiling (Imdb, Straight Outta Compton). From the beginning of the group’s career together, they provided controversial music that relies on the police. On their tour in Detroit, the group received a notification from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s saying that if they were to play the song “F*ck tha Police” they would be punished by the law, which is contradicting the First Amendment. One of the FBI’s statements was that this song should not be played because of the way the song highlights that it’s “Advocating violence and assault.” NWA acknowledged this threat, but did not follow through and ended up playing the song anyway during the concert. In the result of this song, the crowd went into a frenzy. There was police enforcement in the crowd and after the song was over you could hear an explosion of gunshots and the policeman then rush the stage. This entire scene you are viewing as one of the members in the crowd, while everything around you is going amuck. Since this scene had so much to capture, the camera goes into cut shots. This scene was particularly dark, since it was at a concert. The show then ends abruptly and the members of NWA rush off the stage. At the end of the scene you see that the police have arrested …show more content…
You’re watching this scene from the point of view of one of the interviewers themselves. The editing is impactful here because of the way they use the 180 degree rule. This scene was lighted well. There were many camera’s there since it was an interview. Often you would see flashes of several cameras going off. The camera switches back and forth from the interview to the interviewer’s themselves. Here is where Ice Cube delivers an important line that states, “Our Art is a Reflection of our Reality.” This delivers an impactful statement about their art and their culture. Lots of people discourage the group’s music because of the involvement of gangs and violence. Since the group was not afraid of being arrested, when this particular scene came up I could tell the group had something to say. When they compose their music, they don’t explain where they are coming from. They were given the opportunity to explain themselves during this press conference. In a scene earlier you see the group driving past a group of citizens destroying the group’s album. NWA is famous for telling their stories. After his statement earlier, he goes on the say that he refers himself as a journalist, reporting what is going on in the neighborhood. His honesty is crucial to the story of

The movie Do the right thing opens with the song lift every voice which is the anthem for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored people (NAACP), this caused me to automatically think of the rational issues being face at the time of this film, the injustice and oppression the African American people have gone through, and seem to still be going through today in the age of freedom and equality. The film then moves on to a young lady dancing to the song “fight the power”, which was a way to tell the African American communities to take a stand. The opening of the film also elutes to the system of unequal power and privilege. Chapter 8 of text has this quote, “In a democracy, the majority of citizens is capable of exercising the…

The emergence of the female heroine in young adult dystopian fiction is working to change stereotypical representations of women through texts. Women are often under represented, hyper-sexualised or lack complexity in modern works, with just 23% of films distributed globally from 2010-12 featuring female protagonists according to a report released by the Geena Davis Institute. While it is true that female protagonists have been seen over time, they are all too often represented in manners that focus on appearance, their domestic roles and subservience, or emphasized femininity (Connell & Messerschmidt, 2005). Cult classics like The Hunger Games and Divergent are working to empower young women through the characters of Katniss and Tris who are…

Situational Comedies, or more frequently referred to by their portmanteau, Sitcoms, are largely a product of the minstrelsy's formula for success. After thinking on the topic of stereotypes as a means of entertaining people in theater, I can easily think of many shows that utilize this style of humor to create their characters. In the TV Series "Taxi" Danny DeVito plays exactly what you would imagine of a New York small business owner, he's rude, arrogant, self-centered, but despite all of this, his character is hard to hate. Some of the rest of cast there's the dumb military man, the janitor with a screw loose, the confident snarky New Yorker. Jumping forward a decade to the 90's, the show "Friends" debuts Lisa Kudrow's famous character Phoebe, the ditsy blonde that was nominated for Emmy Awards 6 years in a row.…

Stereotyping Minority Groups The video “Ten Rules for Dealing with Police” shows three cases in which three minorities were suspected of criminal activity when being questioned or pulled over by law enforcement. Police often believe because they are the law, they have special privileges and try to assert their dominance if their boundaries are overstepped. With that being said, there are respectful cops and morally deprived cops throughout the United States. Different places in the United States have a higher crime rate, police officers need to go off of instinct, kill or be killed, which accounts for some of the stereotyping.…

This scene uses technical and symbolic codes to help emphasis the point that the children are powerless, thus, the audience sympathises for them. The constant noise of the animals and bugs in the background represent that they are secluded from society and any populated area. The director has used a vast number of camera angles and shots. He used long shots to create the illusion that the white people are superior, while he used low angle shots to supress the audience to think that the Aboriginal people are inferior to the white people. In this scene, all the Aboriginal half-casts are wearing white gowns, this represents that they are innocent.…
