LimeWire was released on August 2000 and in 2006, there were more than four million users every day and over 200 million downloads of the LimeWire software. LimeWire became so popular that it became a huge target for the trade organization, Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The RIAA represents the major recording labels in America and fights copyright infringement on behalf of the record companies and artists. The files that are being downloaded are digital information that have been protected by copyright laws and are on the Internet to download for free. Even though file sharing copyrighted files is illegal, millions of people are still downloading these files for free on the Internet everyday. They may not know it is illegal or they do know it is illegal and are still willingly downloading files off of one of the thousands of file sharing websites, software’s, or technologies. No matter how hard the RIAA works to stop copyright infringement on the Internet, it seems like it will be an impossible task. Every time they shutdown a major file sharing software, a couple more software’s will come up and take
