In the same sense, when Cartwheel starts to establish her identity and connect to the surrounding culture, she describes the new language as "start(ing) to sound warm and soft", therefore conveying her changing attitudes and establishment of her identity within the new culture, to the reader. The precise vocabulary the author uses help make the story more relatable, believable and vivid (Tunnell, 2015, p.21)
