Elizabeth Gilbert says, “You were given life; it is your duty (and also your entitlement as a human being) to find something beautiful within life, no matter how slight”. This quote encompasses the purpose of this anthology: finding and enjoying the stunning beauty of Canadian landscapes. The poems were selected based on a focus on the environment, an evident appreciation for these aspects of the environment, and a Canadian author. This anthology is intended for readers of all ages to rediscover the majesty of the Canadian environment, and learn to appreciate the world around us. The title, “Isn’t it Lovely?” is based on the well-known song, “Isn’t She Lovely”, by Stevie Wonder, as well as inviting the reader to explore the poems, and answer

For example, “In Summer Heat” focuses on one aspect of the environment. In contrast, “Paint a Picture” illustrates many of the disparate landscapes across Canada. The repetition employed in “Paint a Picture” emphasizes the remarkable beauty of the salient features within each geographical area of Canada. Likewise, the use of repetition in “In Summer Heat” effectively highlights the image of a sparkling summer day. Similarly, “When Summer Spreads” also focuses on the images of summer. However, this poem portrays more so the feelings associated with summer rather than the beauty of it. Overall, this poem depicts how teenagers enjoy summers in Canada so much that, to them, it feels like being away in California. Conversely, “The Trees Dance Bare” concentrates on the season of fall. Again the imagery of trees dancing is used, like in “Autumn Rhyme”. This poem gives a feeling of life to fall by using utilizing a plethora of personification. Though appreciation for the environment is not as noticeable in this piece, it is still clear in the way the author uses words to breathe life into the processes of autumn that he or she values this season immensely. Altogether, each of the poems selected are similar, but effective in a distinct and wholly remarkable
