The Revolutionary Force of Colombia called “FRAC” is a terrorism organization that declared war to the Colombian government 40 years ago. They are described as a people's army that has emerged as a popular alternative power. But in the eyes of the governments of Colombia, the United States and the European Union and many Colombians, it is a terrorist organization that is funded by extortion, kidnapping and drug trafficking. At the beginning, the FARC was a group of peasant self-defense. During the fifties were formed spontaneously to defend official violence of a minority conservative government through violence he would remain in power. However, over the years they began to collect "taxes" to farmers as a way of funding. Since occurred the early political and kidnappings, successive governments began negotiating for their release. By assuming Alvaro Uribe were several attempts to achieve peace, but the FARC refused to negotiate unless the military would deter their actions. In more opportunities it was thought that, by failing these dialogues, it had to exterminate the guerrillas. So the result was, that the operation to destroy them with bombs came a guerrilla who finished expanding and exaggerating much violence. In June 2007 the FARC reported the death of 11 deputies kidnapped in Valle del Cauca, after been held hostage for five years. The guerrillas said that was following the crossfire generated during fighting against government forces. On 10 January 2008 former congresswoman Consuelo Gonzalez and the vice presidential candidate Betancourt, Clara Rojas, were released by the FARC. Negotiations to free Betancourt included to the president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, as the kidnapped woman's gala citizen.
