Fetal Tissue Case Summary

Decent Essays
A lawsuit has been filed against 2 biological supply companies, claiming that they sold fetal tissues acquired between the time-frame of 2009-2015 from planned parenthood at extremely expensive prices around the world which is against the law. The biological companies claim that the allegations of overpricing dead fetal tissues extracted from aborted babies held against them are just “accounting issues”. The 2 companies has charged as much as $700 a vial for fetal tissue that only costed them just $20 to process, according to prosecutors. A law professor at UC Irvine, Michele Goodwin stated that almost all companies that process human tissue charge huge mark-ups, including some “that make this look like this is nothing,” she said. “Why not go after the big fish here?” said Goodwin who is a member of the Planned Parenthood Board. Michael Tein, a lawyer for both companies, stated that his clients complied with regulations and never made any money. “This is a civil lawsuit over accounting issues,” Tein said. “We look forward to explaining the full story to the court.” …show more content…
If this case is dismissed as just an “accounting issue” the illegal overpriced sale of fetal tissue most likely will go on and the laws that are being broken will not be upheld. Another point that is important to the future of science is the existence of corrupt biological companies who lie under oath will continue to haunt the fetal tissue industry if they are let off the hook for such troubling offenses. A example of their bold lies is when the biological companies claimed, “we never turned a profit”, even though there is evidence in some cases that they sold vials of tissue for as much as $700 when it only costed them as little as $20 to

Ingalls 1 Cody Ingalls Professor Rhodes Introduction to Ethics April 15th, 2017 Case Study The debate surrounding abortion rights presents many ethical dilemmas, and is rarely a black and white issue, which makes it difficult to label all abortions as moral or immoral. Many people who are opposed to abortion are willing to support it in certain situations, such as in the case of rape, incest, or the endangerment of a mother’s life. One of these situations is described in the case study “Conceived in Violence, Born in Hate,” an overview of a rape and assault victim who was forcibly impregnated and decided to carry the child to term. The case raises interesting questions about the morality of abortions in the case of rape, and the autonomy of…

    1. The issue in this case is if the Drobner v. Peters case should be used as a precedent to dismiss the Woods v. Lancet case, that is whether or not an infant plaintiff could recover damages for injuries allegedly sustained in the mother’s womb during the ninth month of pregnancy resulting in serious injuries, permanently damaging the infant. Citing Drobner v. Peters, the Special Term granted the motion and dismissed the suit on the grounds that infant plaintiff’s failed to state a cause of action, thus taking the position that its allegations, though true, gave the infant no right to recover damages in the courts of New York. The defendant also claimed that there was no medical evidence that proved the plaintiff’s injuries resulted from her…

Planned Parenthood is currently under a great deal of scrutiny concerning whether or not they violated Federal Law by selling aborted baby parts. The Federal Government is also trying to decide if they should cut the $500 million of funding that Planned Parenthood receives. While Planned Parenthood may have been breaking Federal Law, I do not believe that the government should defund them. Planned Parenthood does much more than just abortions; they do STI/STD testing and treatment, provide multiple types of contraception, cancer screenings and prevention, pregnancy tests and prenatal services, adoption referrals to other agencies, and urinary tract infection treatments. All of these services are available for men, women, and teenagers.…

Regardless of what your view on abortion is, the indisputable truth is that what planned parenthood is doing is very meaningful, and undoubtedly, lifesaving work. They administer essential health care services to 2.7 million women, men, and young people all across the country, the majority of which can not obtain medical assistance any other way. So defunding planned parenthood wouldn't mean defunding abortion it would means fighting against affordable healthcare. The organization is more than just an abortions clinic, women and men need planned parenthood and women have the right to their bodies and fighting planned parenthood would be to fight against that fundamental human right (BACHIOCHI). First of all, planned parenthood is more than…

Many people are under the impression that Planned Parenthood is selling fetal tissue for profit (Chris Ostendorf). However, this is a gross misrepresentation of the ideas that Planned Parenthood embodies. Planned Parenthood is often scrutinized because they perform abortions and provide abortion services, when in reality, they are so much more. Providing for men and women, Planned Parenthood is a diverse source of health care. Planned Parenthood was founded October 16, 1916 as a “nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health services in the United States and internationally (Wikipedia).…

Planned Parenthood is well known for being a trusted health care provider in America. Since the 1960’s they have been a powerful voice for women’s rights. In July and August 2015, they took a major “hit.” The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released a series of videos showing Planned Parenthood officials acquiring tissues from aborted fetuses and selling the tissues. David Daleiden, founder of CMP, produced the videos saying that they provided evidence of, “criminal conspiracy to make money off of aborted baby parts.”…
