Inheritance is a heavily covered topic in the section of The Koran that covers women’s rights and expectations. It is a widely known fact that men dominate in ancient times, therefore they receive more inheritance than women, “A male shall inherit twice as much as a female” (1153). Mothers are put after her male children, “if he leave no children…his mother shall have a third. If he have brothers his mother shall have a sixth” (1153). As an elder modern standards would assume that the mother would receive more than her children but it’s shown that because her gender she is second class. The penalty is not a light one for any married women, slave or not, “If any of your women commit a lewd act, call in four witnesses from among yourselves against them; if they testify to their guilt confine them to their houses till death over takes them or till God finds another way for them” (1154).
