Introduction Domestic violence is everywhere around us and for some of us it is not something new. It comes in many forms physical, emotional, and psychological. The abuse is very real and when it starts we are the last to notice it. Nothing is worse then being the person on the outside looking in watching mothers, sisters, and friends go through it without being able to do anything is hard.…
Domestic violence is has always been a prevalent part of society, but has increased over the years at an alarming rate. A study by the American Medical Association has found that between 8 and 12 million women alone in the United States are at risk of being abused by their current or former partners, either physically, mentally or sexually, causing a residual affect onto their families (4). Battered men exist as well, but are often ignored and treated as skepticism because of the tropes applied to men because women are seen as being naturally weaker than them due to sex roles. The children of these battered families, whether witnesses of the abuse or unwilling victims, seemingly suffer the worst fate as they struggle to prosper in an environment…
Neutrality is invalid in the feminist family therapy approach in the case of family violence. Women are trained to place family harmony, cooperation, and communication highest on their priority list than many men. Therefore, a clinician may inadvertently rely on a woman’s commitment to relationship and expect more of them, reinforcing old patterns in which responsibility for relationship change is placed on women. A feminist family therapist is an ideal modality when working with female survivors of Child Sexual Abuse because of its history of advocating for women’s rights and its emphasis on putting an end to women’s abuse (Barrett et al., 1990).…
She is who retains feminist ideas while also maintaining her relationships, but most importantly her marriage. The Feminist Wife does not buy into the idea that a woman’s sole purpose in life is to search for the man of her dreams in order to live happily ever after. She is aware that this is a socially constructed idea that has been perpetuated in the media and that this notion is not imbedded within nature. She does not believe in the idea that the wife and husband are meant to be. Instead, she is cognitively aware that marriages do fail and that women are still capable of being successful and happy without the addition of a man.…
The textbook has many examples of domestic violence and abuse, specifically in chapter 15 it does a great job in explaining the many factors that influence this behavior. The text does a good job of explaining how the abuse occurs on a physical, sexual, psychological, and economic level to control a partner or child (Gladding, 2015). I think it is very important to look at all these aspects and evaluate, which are more severe on a case by case basis. I was also very interested in the assessments it discussed for domestic violence, such as the common couple violence (CCV) and the severe abusive violence (SAV). The CCV is based on a low-level violence that is initiated by either women or men, which is infrequent and noninjurious (Gladding, 2015).…
Feminist theory posits that adolescent sexual violence/coercion should be considered within a patriarchal social structure with male as perpetrator and female as victim, except in same-sex relationships(Schewe, 2008). Feminist orientated interventions recognises that as men are the primary perpetrators of sexual violence, prevention efforts should target attitudes, believes, rape myths and work on changing perceptions of traditional gender roles as the key to preventing sexual violence. In other words, there is an assumption that attitudinal change will lead to behaviour change. It must be acknowledged the intent behind such programs is laudable and ensures that women’s and girls’ experiences of sexual coercion are placed on the public agenda…
The feminist perspective emphasizes the importance of the social, political and economic power relations that shape human societies. Feminist theories suggest ways to help eliminate misperceptions, sexual inequalities, restrictions, and injustices faced by women (Saulnier, 2000). This perspective requires gender analysis when examining the effects of oppression and power in our society. The applications of feminist counselling is not limited to gender, as it can be applied in many settings and in response to many problems, with women and men, children and adults (Brown, 2004). As a practice approach, feminist social work can empower women to become advocates for change both in their own lives and in the social values and structures that promote…
Feminist theory arose as a reaction to the sexist, biological explanations for gender inequalities such as those of Talcott Parsons. Feminism actually sees sociology itself as sexist as all previous theories: Functionalism, Marxism and Interactionism have failed to adequately explain gender differences in modern society. Feminism is a huge body of theory. Feminism is a set of ideas which criticises the discrimination experienced by women based on their gender.…

When I was around 3-4 years old, my parents had the responsibility to balance work and family. My dad was a construction worker who worked a full time of 8 hours from Monday through Friday. It did not involve much traveling away from home. If he had to travel, it would only be to a place that is 2 hours away at the max and would still be able to make it back to his family the same day. My mom had a part-time job as an assistant in medical herbs and worked about 4-5 hours from Monday through Friday as well, so that she can spend more time with my sister and me.…

Marriage and Family is all around us. It’s on television, newspapers, and magazine ads. We pass by families on the street, in the store, in our own neighborhoods. Women’s rights are differently affected in any given society or country by war or peace, war between segments in the society or as an affect of external conflicts. During times of war, the security of women is simply faltering, as they are vulnerable to slavery, rape, murder, and more violent acts by their enemies, invaders, or by their own country’s frustrated soldiers or men. Peace affects women likewise. For the purpose of this essay, we will study two of the major threats to women’s rights, during times of Peace, that of which are the effects of diverse cultures and poverty.…
Gender Roles In todays world there are many different types of gender roles. A gender role is basically a set of societal norms determining what type of behaviors are usually considered acceptable or appropriate in society for a person based on their actual or perceived biological sex. Some gender roles are very similar and then some very different from others. Even within my family there are many different types of gender roles displayed throughout each household.…
