Feathers-Personal Narrative

I was next to the water. The smell of the pine trees were in the air. A slight mist was on the water and hanging around me. It was beautiful, fireflies danced, and crickets chirped a tune through the trees in the distance.

The lonely cabin looked so beautiful and ancient. And there she stood.

Once again the magnificent creature who stood nearly seven feet tall was before me. The build of a horse the wings of a dragon, eyes black as night and instead of a mane there were spines with soft silk across it which also replaced her tail. Feathers that were black as night covered her body then turned to scales at her legs, and webbed talons replaced what should have been hooves.

The lake was reflecting the moon onto her feathers. I walked to her

Then she repeated. ""Wake up." and I started to drift. No I was falling! I fell into the lake with a splash.

I awoke with a start. My head hitting the window. My mom giggled from the driver seat. "Wake up, we're almost there sweetie." She let out another giggle and went back to the road.

I could still smell the pine trees in the air, but that happened every time I have this dream. But this was different, I never before have touched her. It was so real, I could still feel the warmth down my back and and her feathers under my fingers.

But now that i'm awake I began to wonder about the campgrounds we were going to. Mom wouldn't tell me anything, just that she went there as a kid. Everyone was banned from going due to a few disappearances of some of her fellow classmates. Not one, not even my father has been back here since it happened, well the groundskeeper and now us.

But just a year ago everything changed when James Clothan was found guilty of murdering the missing kids. He had a flamethrower and was seen torching bodies. Everyone is still to scared to come back but if mom says it's fine then it is, right? Oh well, I shouldn't linger on that subject for too

You are not allowed to bring it. But that doesn't mean I can't"

I rolled my eyes at her and asked if I could go to the lake.

" Yes but only for a little while. And i'll call for you when lunch is ready."

Lunch! I looked at my watch and it was almost one in the afternoon. It was only eight o'clock when we got here. I guess time really does fly by when you're working hard.

I changed into my swimsuit and headed over to the dock.

I found some oars in the small shed and loosened the rope tying the boat to the dock, and then got to rowing the boat out to middle of the lake. I threw in the rock and rope that we use as an anchor. And it sank, and sank, and sank and kept sinking, and it was almost at the forty foot marker when it finally stopped.

And I screamed "Oh my God! Thirty eight feet!" I saw her run out of the house and when she reached me she almost had a scared look to her.

"Are you ok?!" She asked in a panicked state.

"Yes mother i'm fine I was yelling because the lake is thirty-eight feet

and I went to Orman Dam. While we were there we knee boarded and tubed. We were all having so much time and while we were doing all that my dad was filling up the ballast. If you don’t know what that is it is a spot on the back side of the boat where a giant pillow thing gets filled up with water. You need this because it weighs down that one side of a boat so you get a wake that looks similar to a wave at the ocean.…

When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…
