Did you know that 140 billion animals are killed for human consumption ever year? For many people that would be a very shocking number because many people use the psychology “Out of sight, out of mind”. This is something that a lot of individuals use to not be held accountable because for many people if they do not see it then they do not think about it. Often people do not think of how the animals who become their food are treated, who prepares it, or the conditions it was made in. As consumers one has no obligation to consider who the people are who prepare our food and the conditions in which they do it because it is guaranteed by law to be safe. Also, we need to honor the animals who are sacrificed to give protein for us. …show more content…
They know that terrible things are going on in the factories, but they do not want to face the fact that animals are suffering to become part of their next meal. Mathew Sully in his article “Fear Factories: The Case for Compassionate Conservation-For Animals says that, “… when the subject is cruelty to farmed animals…suddenly we’re in forbidden territory and “I don’t know want to know” is the best he can do” (Sully 123). To think about it means to recognize the problems, and to recognize the problems means to fix them. Sully states that, “…355,000 pigs every day in the life of America…” (Sully 129) are shipped off to their deaths, and if we were to examine these animals we would more than likely find that there are problems with many of them that need to be fixed, but because people have such high demands for the meat from these animals nothing is check so that it can be fixed. Millions of people just do not care what these animals have to go through to become the food they enjoy eating so much and because of this they suffer. Anthony Bourdain states, “Working Clean, constantly wiping and cleaning, is desirable state of affairs for the conscientious line cook” (Bourdain 107). Cleanness in food preparation is critical to good health, and we do not have to worry about that because it is promised to us by the people who are over the inspection of our food. In the United States, the citizens through legislation provide for the safety of our food production, preparation, and consumption. The legislation provides for inspections of all food related things from being to end. In some other countries you cannot be assured of this protection. U.S. citizens take food safety for granted, but when in other countries one should use
