Playing fantasy sports has increased exponentially in popularity over the past 10 years. This can be traced to the Federal Government's decision to declare participating in fantasy leagues for cash prizes to be perfectly legal. As the NFL season approaches, prospective managers are honing their skills and planning their draft strategies. Given that skill levels may vary from one manager to the next, it would seem some fantasy football draft advice would be in order to try and even the playing field a little. 1.…
The football that we see in the National Football League (NFL) is the same as the Canadian Football League (CFL), but with different teams and rules. In the NFL, a team has four chances to get a first down (getting the ball ten yards), but in the CFL they only get three chances. Not only is the amount of downs different, but so are the amount of players on the field. In the NFL, there are eleven players on the field, opposed to the CFL, where there are twelve! In the CFL, they can fit twelve people onto the field easier because the field is bigger than the NFL’s field.…
It's time to step up, learn the process, and reread the laws and continue to practice. Anyone can be successful with the right amount of determination and proper guidance. Remember that no matter what time of year you are in, there is no such thing as an offseason. The amount of news that have fantasy implications is a year round stream. Those who commit to putting in the work will be first in line to reap the benefits.…
I live in a world of crazy numbers and fancy acronyms, the world of sabermetrics. Originally defined by Bill James in 1980, sabermetrics is "the search for objective knowledge about baseball", yet the term has grown into much, much more. Sabermetrics give ordinary people like me, the tools to predict the future, to forecast the worth of a human being with a couple of intricate formulas and a pinch of extrapolation. It appeared to be magic when I first learned about the masses of statistics associated with baseball. I was seven years old when my father started introducing me to his boxes upon boxes of old baseball cards.…
Season long fantasy football is a game played by millions across the United States, and recently a new form of it has become popular too, daily fantasy football. In this format you draft a new team every single week. Because fantasy football is a game of skill, the government does not consider it gambling, therefor making it legal to place wagers on your teams on sites like Fanduel. In reality, luck is involved, but if you look at some advanced statistics you can eliminate a lot of the gamble. I go by…
B.) Credibility: My friends and I use Draftkings fairly often to compete and win money while watching sports, Draft Kings also is partnered with ESPN and the NFL. However, for such a big problem in the America 's most watched game, there is almost information that could start up a potential solution. Even with generous donations from the NFL, the players, and the medical and stat…
It is well known that the most valuable asset of a sports league is its players. The quality of the league fluctuates according to the quality of its players”(Webb 160). It seems that today, professional sports front offices often have trouble deciding which bridge to cross. In my opinion, its an easy one. Though fans like to see their favorite superstars on the field, everyone has morals and for the most part, know right from wrong.…
Do you hear about baseball in daily life? Have you ever done minor league baseball? Have you watched a World Series game? In the 1920’s, baseball athletics augmented greatly, due the Great War that drove people to social adjustment and wanting to pursue a leisure life.…
Technology is changing everything around us, including sports. With modern technology now, people can tackle it into our professional sports to make the games equitable. Position paper 1 In recent years, major league baseball has increasing difficulty holding the attention of an audience due to immobility of the league and other rivaling sports. To curb this problem sports league respond by proposing reducing game length but is this really the way to go? Resorting to such measures could alienate dedicated fans, event-attending fans who would not feel the need to attend short games. An alternative that could shorten the game so it might be wise to emulate the system of promotion and relegation which most of the world uses.…
Just like everything else, the NBA and NFL are always adapting their technologies. Each one of these organizations have five very intriguing new technologies. TOP 5 NBA TECHNOLOGIES Officials in the NBA use digital whistles, and this allows the time to automatically stop as soon as the whistle is blown. A structural functionalist approach to answering this question would begin first with the recognition that all aspects of the larger cultural system are connected (LumenLearing). Therefore, the NFL is not simply a sports league, but rather an extension and driving force of dominant American culture. Tens of millions of Americans watch each week and even more view clips or articles on the internet. Fantasy football is itself a multi-billion industry with television programs, articles and podcasts reaching a widely dispersed audience every day. I say this to highlight the fact the football is more than football, it is what Marx described as a force for “cultural production.”…
Esports viewers have steadily increased by an average of twenty-one percent each year since 2012; in 2012 the viewer count was at a little above fifty-five million people, but by 2014 there were a staggering eighty-nine million people tuning in for the live events (Casselman). With more people watching esports events every year, the amount of hours watched also increases. Advertisers love the increasing amount of fans and hours watched, resulting in their product branching out to more people. 3.7 billion hours of esports were watched in 2014 and that number is increasing astronomically every year. The viewers of the gaming industry 's biggest event, League of Legends World Championship Series, is second only to the Super Bowl’s viewer count of 112.2 million people (Casselman).…
For this project, I interviewed Chris Savino, who graduated in 2010 and now works as a Senior Financial Analyst for Major League Soccer, in the sports industry. At Saint Joseph’s University, Savino was an accounting and finance double major with a passion for soccer. Him and a friend even started the Men’s Club Soccer team. Late into his senior year, Savino and a friend started a website, Business of Soccer, with the intent to blog about soccer; however, they soon realized it had transformed into a resource for the sport’s industry and less so a blog. After graduating, he went to work for PwC as a Senior Associate providing auditing and consulting services, while still writing for Business of Soccer along with Goal.com.…
