Eisenhower was in office from 1953 until 1961. During World War II he served Supreme Commander as the allied forces in Europe, with responsibility for planning and supervising the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944-45 from the Western Front. In 1951 he became the first supreme commander of NATO. Eisenhower introduced the Eisenhower Doctrine it was a message to congress which allowed to assist American economy. Overall Americans ranked EIsenhower in the top 10.
The 1950s was a time of many great things, the credit card was invented, the color TV was invented any more. One topic however stands out to me the most and that is famous people from the 1950s. Many famous people from the 50s made a huge impact on most Americans in the world. One of which is Marilyn Monroe, she was born on June 1, 1926 and died on August 5,1962. At the end of February 1962, the British Actor Peter Lawford and his wife Pat (JFK’s sister) invited Marilyn Monroe to a dinner party in New York that was being held to honor the President. Dinner was at eight, but at 9pm Marilyn was still sitting in front of her dressing table mirror, putting the finishing touches to her makeup. Notoriously late for everything, she was happy to keep the President of the United States waiting. She eventually arrived at JFK’s hotel more than an hour late with Lawford’s business partner Milt Ebbins. The President turned around and you could see that he was immediately attracted to her
Before she left JFK asked for her phone number. Of course she gave it to him. He called her the very next day with a suggestion, He was going to be in Palm Springs on March 24. He also told Marilyn that his wife Jackie won't be there. JFK was supposedly done with Marilyn after Palm Springs. A good friend of Kennedy’s says that JFK told him that Marilyn wasn't really “ First Lady Material.’’ and Marilyn didn’t like that.
