"Blood makes you related, but loyalty makes you family". This quote is true to both "Redfern Now" and "Tonsils" as both the short story and episode portray family loyalty in a similar fashion. In both cases the irresponsibility in both the short story and episode are both severe cases, in "Redfern Now" when Grace and Tyler arrive inside of the elevator, that is when a tracking shot is established and the foreshadowing and symbolism is heavily present throughout the tracking shot, for example when they arrive there is a cross graffitied on the right side of the elevator foreshadowing that Jake is going to bring up how religion saved him from his addiction. A long with this we hear a radio and police sirens in the background with graffiti sprawled all over the apartment complex symbolising Jake's past as a druggie. We also see tons of no smoking signs and exit signs everywhere and both are placed near his apartment when Grace is talking about how he left his wife and kids behind opting for the easy way out which is signified through all the exit signs. "I can't change the past Grace, you just need to start again" this quote by Jake proves that he is extremely irresponsible as instead of taking care of his kids after getting un hooked on drugs he decides to just leave Lilly on her own to take care of two kids. "Tonsils" have a similar situation but with some minor differences, "On occasion a pisshead mum takes all her other personalities for the ride..." This shows that Liza is incapable of maintaining her alcohol consumption which is a trait of irresponsibility causing Hayley
