Family History Growing up my grandfather always told me funny stories of his childhood. Every day I spent with him was another story. He told me all the good and easy times of his life along with all the bad and hard times. My grandfather’s name is Carlos Garcia. He was born January 21, 1955 and is currently still living. His mother, my great grandmother, is still living as well. Recently because of her age and health conditions she has had many surgeries performed on her. Not to mention, she has trouble speaking because of many health problems it hurts for her to speak for long amounts of time. Her birthday is May 2. Especially in other countries like Mexico. Electricity still had not come around during his childhood. Stoves, microwaves, dish washers, refrigerators were still nonexistent. To make their food or heating their food, they this machine they called a “stove” and gathered wood to start a little fire to start up the stove and heating it enough to cook. To wash dishes they would use a big and extremely wide bucket. I believe they dried the dishes immediately and with a towel or piece of cloth. Although this was in his time, there are still places in today’s time that still wash dishes outside almost the same way. My father’s side of the family still did the last time I went for a visit. The hardest work would probably have to be washing clothes. Without washers and driers everything had to be done by hand. There would be this sort of table shaped as what they seen it as a washer. They would use a bucket of water, that was most likely used for the dishes as well, and soap and scrub alongside the table to wash it clean. They had to be extremely careful as well with their clothes, because they couldn’t exactly afford new clothes. Their shoes had to last long as well because they were just as
