My family is very important to me because they are the ones who have shaped me and molded me into the person I am today. In spite of all their flaws I know my family loves me very much. Growing up I only had my mom and my grandparents in my life, my parent’s divorce when I was only four years old and I did not meet my father until I was eighteen years old. Everything that I am is because of my mother, she sacrifices so much for me, she taught me hard and valuable lessons to conquer anything that stands in my way. My mom also raised me in a Christian home, she used to tell me if you cannot trust me or nobody else trust Jesus because He sticks closer to you than a brother.
The greatest thing about my family is that we are all very talented musically but I am the only one who is good at art and music. As you can imagine when we all get together for Thanksgiving and Christmas it is a celebration someone is playing so kind of instrument or singing, the house is full of laughter and joy. When my grandfather was still alive he would tell me stories about his youth and how he got the nickname count. My grandfather inspires me to be a better musician and my mother inspires me to be a better Christian. Lastly, I wouldn’t be in this family if it wasn’t for God I am very thankful for the family that God has given me. My youngest uncle Patrick was born in America. They all grew up in a Christian home sadly not all are still Christians my youngest uncle and his family are Jehovah Witnesses and my other uncle is not servicing God anymore. When my mother was growing up there was a seen of gender role that they all followed. When my uncles would go fishing with my grandpa my mom being the girl, she had to still home and clean the fish, there was a doubt standard my mom couldn’t go a lot of places my uncles got to go to even though she was older. When I was growing up in my grandparent’s house they had some rules that they followed in Jamaica and used in America. First one was no whistling in the house and when I came in the house as a kid I would have to leave my shoes at the front door, to avoid tracking dirt in the house. I was force to eat my grandma’s food it always made me sick, she isn’t a bad cook the food was just very greesy. My grandmother also believes in superstitions and can be kind of mean to all of us. I have learned through my families’ cultural history that I come from a talented family and those who doesn’t sing become preachers or service in the military. Personal Development Reflecting on my personal development there are still some steps I need to work on to reach my goals. I need to devote more than an hour on my relationship with God, to know what the plans are for my life. I’m already devoting my time towards education. I have a hard time working on time management I spend too much time on things less important at times. I need to develop self-confidence that I can do a skill
