Family dynamics have changed tremendously throughout the years. The “traditional” family can no longer be defined and does not exist. The family structure is continually evolving. Community nursing involves considering three family social science theories during implementation of care. These three theories are family systems, family development and family bioecological systems. Some families share the same genes which has caused a rise in examining genomic health. This is an analysis of family theories and genomic health.

This emotional resilience is accomplished with self-regulation and awareness. The bioecological theory examines the nature verse nurture concept of child development. This studies how factors outside the family influence a child development and functioning. Stanhope& Lancaster, 2014 state the bioecological system is composed of five central elements in development. Theses central elements are the microsystem, mesosystem , exosystem, macrosystem and chronosystem. The microsystem element inspects daily interactions and how they impact a child for example, the child’s interactions with school teachers, neighbors or peers. The mesosystem would encompass individuals the child interacts with frequently, but not on a daily basis for instance, a home health nurse visiting home if the child had sickle cell. The ecosystem are environmental agencies that influence the family in an indirect manner, this would be the social security or economic system if the child received disability benefits. The macrosystem is a large variety of social, cultural values and beliefs that indirectly influence the child. This includes the church family providing support to the child.
