Fall Dance Strengths And Weaknesses

Improved Essays
In the Fall Dance Concert, I noticed many strengths and weaknesses of my performances, but I also noticed my growth as a dancer. Even between two different days of performances, they were both distinct in their own ways. In the freshman dance, I noticed that my beginning coupe turns, I tended to falter and stumble on the transitions in between them, but I was able to recover from those mistakes. On Thursday I saw that my turn out on various steps was getting lost, but on Friday it was much better. In regards to the group portion of the dance, my timing on various steps was off both nights, especially the arch back (Bella's move) and the shoulder roll (Leeanna's move). On Thursday I noticed that my leg was bent on Terra's jump, but I did fix

At that age, I wasn’t expected to be good it was more just for the “cute factor”. Right before we went on I was so nervous, and I remember when I first walked out in front of all those people I suddenly froze and was just memorized by all the lights shining directly into my eyes. After we danced I watched the older kids dance and I thought they were so cool because they all did their dance insync. From then on I wanted to be exactly like them…

There are various factors which have the ability to either positively and/or negatively influence a dancer by shaping their outlook on circumstances relating to the dance industry. Environment, society, person's and culture all play important roles in defining who a dancer is and this chapter will explore how influential characters and forms of media affect dancers by incorporating the impacts of these four fundamental concepts throughout. In the dance piece, Waiting For The 46th, choreographer Ryan Thomas and dancers Jillian Bruno, Chav’nair “Chav” Stocker, and Jazmin Zavaleta explore the struggles that we may come across in our life as obstacles. The piece was performed at the Kinetic Conversations faculty dance concert at 7:00 pm on November 30th, 2017 in the Landis Performing Arts Center on the campus of Riverside City College. The dance department created this showcase to demonstrate the many talents that choreographers have in bringing a piece and telling a story that we can interpret in many different ways. Each piece gives a different interpretation by the way we view it from personal experiences to what we create in our heads from what we just saw. Dancers Jillian…

"Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion." (Martha Graham) A dancer can receive all the training they need to be "great," but once that spark of passion ignites them, that is when they truly are great. I experienced this moment when I was about twelve years old, my first solo. I woke up that crisp, January morning knowing exactly what I had ahead of me.…

I had so much to prove, to myself, to my peers, and those who came to watch the show. When the weekend of shows arrived, I had to dance both my ensemble part and my autumn solo. After my ensemble part, I had to sprint off stage, throw my hair into a bun, fastened my warm, rhinestoned crown atop of my head, and tightened my delicately embroidered tutu. Seconds before my solo, I would catch my breath, warm up my feet, stretch, and mentally prepare myself by going over the choreography in my head. The dance before mine soon came to an end, and before I knew it, I was entering the stage, proudly performing the memorized choreography.…

When I first came to class, it was truly frightening getting in front of people to move my body like I have never moved it before. Even the dance move to the number of syllables to our names was way scarier than it should have been. The amount of growth that I have personally made, and that everyone else has made is tremendous. Moving was much harder, much less fluid than it was at the end of the semester. The more and more that we practiced movements, such as the partner touch and blind movement exercise.…

The large speakers that surround the filled room begin to vibrate as the loud unknown voice begins to announce my name. I now know that it is my time to shine. While standing behind the long, red curtains I begin to do what comes natural; lifting my head as if I am looking above and beyond the ceiling that lies above me with a smile projecting from my face, standing tall with strong energy from my toes to the tips of my fingers and pushing my shoulders back to respectfully greet my judges. The adrenaline pounds in my chest, but confidence over powers and I am nothing but ready to entertain my audience. The loud roars of encouraging chanting and cheering rings in my ears as I walk towards the spotlight that gives off a warm radiant heat where I hit my beginning position.…

“When your music begins, you will be in competition mode.” I took a deep breath, it was showtime. I was introduced to the world of competitive dance in August of 2011 and ever since, dance has been the outlet for all of my emotions. I started off as a shy little girl who hid in the corner, barely extending her limbs as I attempted to mock those in front of me. As time elapsed, I persevered through challenging ten hour practices and the taunting of my peers.…

Having never before observed a technique class, I did not really know what to expect besides seeing an instructor teach the students different moves and techniques. While I sat in the corner watching the students warm up by doing different tap techniques, I was amazed when I saw one of my friends had walked in and started warming up with the rest of the students. After I saw him dancing, I was astonished by how literally anyone can do these dances that look so difficult with a little bit of practice. It was very fun and entertaining to watch other students learn and practice their new dance moves. When we were first told that we were going to have to observe a rehearsal along side with the dance technique class I got really excited.…

This was the most enjoyable part of dance because it was a way of meeting others students outside of the class room that enjoyed dance just as much as I do. I was also able to see different variety of dance. For example, during the show this year there was a group that did an African dance. This gave me a new perspective of dance abacus the movements looked very mellow but still energetic. It shows me that dance does not solely have to be of one energy level.…

When I started my sophomore year at Seattle Prep, I told myself I would do something challenging. I made a goal of finding something that is uncomfortable, and doing it. Sophomore year was the year I joined Pulse, Seattle Prep's dance team. Before Pulse, I have never danced for recreation, and I knew this would be a challenge. I could not even present a speech in front of a small class, I had no idea how I would be able to dance in front of the whole school.…

High School is a time when you venture out and try new things you probably never considered before. A catalyst in my life was joining dance team at the end of freshman year. When I was younger I did dancing for different places, but in fifth grade I stopped dancing. Honestly, I felt like I was not really doing anything productive since I didn’t have extracurricular activities. Dance was a large part of my life since I always seemed to find my way back to it.…

The formation of dance has lived on this world for many generations as we continue to pass through history. When I went to the wonderful performance at Pierce College I experienced a whole new perspective on dancing. The concert had many types of students performing mixed dance projects of all types like solos and duets. There was an average size of one to eight dancers per project which made it the ideal size for the concert. I really enjoyed the creativity and effort put into this performance.…
