My dream was to become a production engineer. Since grade three it was something I always wanted to do. Throughout junior high I was talented at math and science. My parents have always had this tremendous dream that I would be an engineer, that’s why they provided everything I needed in school. Everything to make me be successful in school, they made sure I had all my textbooks and my notebooks. It felt like I didn’t have anything to lose. As time flew by I wasn’t interested in being an engineer anymore. …show more content…
I expected this as I started having more knowledge of what a production engineer actually was. I could see the disappointment in my parents eyes when I told them that my dream of becoming an engineer has changed. This lead to many conversations and debates on what I wanted to do with my life. Many times I’ve asked them, ‘why can’t I follow what I wanted to do in my life?’ But that just didn’t work. They always come up with the same phrase, “What do you mean go your own path? Your dad and I gave you everything. We provided you with all of your needs. If you needed something at school we will go straight the store and buy you your supplies, and now, you are going to repay us with going your own path?” People take years to achieve their dreams. With or without defeat. Humans want the shortest path to it, and experiencing defeat doesn’t make it any shorter. Nevertheless, the only reason we must need to experience defeat is so that we can learn from it. We can learn from our mistakes and grow more as a person. Although, my dream of becoming an engineer is still lingering somewhere at the back of my head and is still processing the thought if it’s still something I want to pursue. “Failure and defeat are life’s greatest teachers.” Ralph Heath explains in the quote that the only way to get through life is by defeat. In addition, most people like myself decide to fly under the radar. Instead, we choose to play it safe, we always reuse the safe card. There is no thrill in our lives. We usually play this card so that we are safe from trouble. Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison or any of the great mathematicians, philosophers, or poets who have left a significant amount of impact in this world didn’t expect that they would be able to do this. Albert Einstein for example, growing up, he had what we consider speech problems. Who would 've known that? He wasn’t able to present his ideas in front of his class. When his grades started to deplete, his family decided to hire a tutor for him. This tutor had a love for science and tutored Einstein very well. Later that night Einstein had a dream about the nature of light. Since then, Albert Einstein had discovered the quantum theory of light. Now for a person who had difficulty in speaking and was often called by his teachers ‘slow and lazy’ Einstein certainly has gone through ups and downs in his life. Thomas Edison, another major contributor to the world of science had invented the light bulb. Can you believe that it took him 1 000 times to come up with his prototype? Even him! The amazing Thomas Edison, has faced challenges in his life. In an interview he has done, a reporter asked him, “How did it feel to have failed 1 000 times?” Edison told the reporter, “I didn’t fail 1 000 times. The lightbulb was an invention with 1 000 steps.” Unlike
