As all of the factory farm animals defecate, it produces enormous amounts of waste. Unlike smaller farms where the waste can be used as fertilizer without harming the environment, factory farms have so much waste so they just create cesspools of urine and feces. This waste then makes its way into our local environments allowing them to pollute our water, air, and soil. Also the stress put on the animals and the crowded conditions makes it much easier for disease to spread in the factory farms. Even if one animal becomes contaminated in a factory farm it's possible for that same animal to contaminate thousands of pounds of meat in a slaughter house. To prove this in 2008, 22 people died in Toronto from a bacteria outbreak from contaminated equipment in Maple Leaf’s packaging factories. In addition to that all animals in the factory farm are given antibiotics even if they aren’t sick. This makes it possible for antibiotic resistant bacteria to be created, and it’s proven that using these drugs will reduce the success of antibiotics used on humans. So far we know that factory farming is harmful to the animals and us the consumers but it can also be very harmful to the world we live
