Eggs are the most fragile thing you can find, one drop and they will break. What can we do to protect the egg from breaking when it falls? First, there are many factors that affect the egg when it falls. The factors are momentum, air resistance, pressure, gravity, and angular momentum. The first factor is Momentum; it is the product of the mass and velocity of an object. “P” is the 3D vector stating the object’s momentum in 3 directions of 3D space. Where “V” is the 3D velocity vector giving the object’s rate of movement in every direction it goes. “M” is the object’s mass. The second factor is air resistance also known as drag, is the forces that are in resistance to the motion of an object through the air. Drag forces act the exact opposite to the coming flow velocity. So basically it pushes back or lowers the momentum of the falling egg. The third factor is pressure; pressure is the amount of force acting per unit area. Force is the strength or energy assigned by physical action or …show more content…
A good absorber that can help is Styrofoam. We will use a container made of foam. Nylon or other stretchy materials like elastic bands can be used as a trampoline to protect the egg from breaking or cracking, by reducing the risk of the momentum the egg will be falling at. Water is also one of the safest options, so we will be filling balloons with water to be a trampoline like flooring. We also decided on how to hold the egg in place to stop all the movement that will be occurring during the fall. We do that so the angular momentum won’t really be in play. The shell also has a thin cover that helps keep out bacteria, dust and offers protection for the yolk and albumin (the white). An average-sized egg weighs approximately 57g. Of this weight, the shell constitutes 11% and the albumin is 58% and the yolk, is 31%. Normally, these percentages do not differ for small or large
