Fabric softener manufactures then added in their label that their products are not use on "children's sleepwear or other garments labeled as flame resistant as they may reduce flame resistance." This tells us that fabric softeners may cause the fire of the girl's nightgown, the nightgown has said to be over 3 years already and has been washed with fabrics softener over many times as well. This means that there is a possibility of chemical substance that is being attached to the fabric each time fabric softener is used. Just four months previously, a fire in a Newark factory claimed 25 lives, many of which were caused by workers jumping to their deaths to escape the flames. In fact, fires were extremely common in large factories, and a fire could even be a good business move for a factory owner, if there was extra stock and insurance money to be collected. The Asch building itself had had four small fires leading up to the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. However, fire safety was definitely not a priority in the eyes of the businessman.…

“Considering the very great amount of floor area always taken up by tables, men and girls and machines could be packed as closely as the chairs could be put and the factory owner still be within the law” (Argersinger 41). The loft-style appearance also kept the horrid interior working conditions unobserved from the outside environment. To further contribute to the dangerous conditions, baskets of shirtwaist materials littered the factory floor, as well as finished products hanging above the factory machines. “The fire was spreading faster now, feeding itself on piles of shirtwaists, wooden tables, even the fabric dust that hung in the air” (The American Experience: Triangle Fire).…
