Exposure To Diversity Reflection

Decent Essays
After attending a small charter school from 4th grade through 12th, I am looking forward to experiencing a bigger atmosphere. I have kept the same friends since middle school and honestly there is not much diversity between us. I would benefit from NC State’s campus because it would broaden my view of other cultures and beliefs, and force me to reflect on my own opinions. This reflection could lead to exposure to different life experiences and therefore learning from others.
Exposure to diversity will help me grow as a person and a student. Working with others will help me to become confident in my own opinions, while practicing acceptance of others. Knowing that NC State has a large and diverse student body, I will be given the opportunities

The diversity at NC State is one of the many reasons that draws me to the University. I look forward to meeting the vast array of individuals who all unite as one in the Wolfpack. Diversity will allow me to understand different people for who they are, not how they are presented in the media and popular culture. Different viewpoints, languages, ethnic groups, and nationalities are just a few of the things I hope to experience at NC State. I find it important to create acquaintances from various backgrounds in order to unite ourselves as fellow humans, regardless of where we were born or what language we speak.…

Diversity is a key element for a proper learning environment; students must be amongst people of other backgrounds to be exposed to the variation in the real world. In the scientific community, collaboration with others is necessary, and often, they come from an alternate way of life. Working with someone who may be different in many ways has numerous benefits; they may be able to propose ideas that you had not previously considered, or they could inform you of something that has the potential to assist you later in life. Living in a diverse setting not only an educational benefit, but it also aids in the preparation for the real world. We live in an extremely diverse location, with people immigrating from various places around the world.…

Dear University of Texas, Austin Office of Admissions, I write this letter to you in regards to your race-based affirmative action program that has been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court as of 2013. Just a few years ago, a woman by the name of Abigail Fisher challenged your affirmative action program created to increase the enrollment of minority students. The Supreme Court decided in favor of this program, and by doing so, upheld the use of race-based affirmative action in higher education, specifically in your institution (“Equality” 1). I believe that after the Supreme Court’s decision, rather than continuing the use of race-based affirmative action, you should have taken a closer look at your admission process and made changes accordingly.…

Where people with different backgrounds are able to come together and be united. Where, all people have the opportunity to become what they want. Over the past four years, color guard in the marching band has been my primary school activity. Color guard requires year-round participation with tryouts beginning in April, competition preparation beginning in March and through summer with camps, and then finally the football games and competitions in the fall. It’s an immense commitment and I believe that you really have to love it, and I did. My participation began my freshman year…

Contribution to society is a common element that unites people together, but unique to each individual. I want my contribution to right those who has been wronged in the legal system. My curiosity of the case of OJ Simpson and my reading on ‘Outrage: The five reasons OJ Simpson got away with murder’ has given me insight into the potential wrongs in the justice system and has empowered me to transfer this inquisitiveness into studying Law. The inspiration to read law came from having the privilege to speak to a ‘Family and Relationship’ solicitor and the fulfilment I would acquire when assisting people with personal issues.…

I would contribute to as well as benefit from the diversity at NC State University. There are many ways in which my experiences will contribute to the diversity at NC State, such as: living overseas, gaining some college experience prior to attending a university, and living on my own. I spent most of my youth traveling with the military, which allowed me to experience foreign cultures first hand. I obtained college credits by being dual enrolled between Wayne School of Engineering, a high school, and Wayne Community College and had freedoms that other high school students do not have, such as being able to travel to the college as a high school student, as young as a sophomore. As a junior in high school, I was invited to apply to Governor’s…

Diversity is defined as variety, especially the inclusion of people of different race or culture, which happens to be the focus of most diversity initiatives. Diversity in the workplace began in the United States after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act when the US American industry began to see new categories of workers such as women and those with disabilities. In today’s world, the United States is considered a “melting pot” of ethnic cultures. Due to globalization, diversity has become a huge part of the workplace and therefore it is important for organizations to focus on trying to find ways to deal with having a diverse workforce. As quoted in the article Reflections on Diversity and Organizational development “diversity is an essential…
