At Pearl Harbor we embarked on a boat to the sunken wreckage of the USS Arizona, a Navy ship that was bombed during the attack. We walked through museums and exhibitions, learning more about the attack, the causes and effects, and the destruction. We got to see stalagmites, stalactites, flowstones, chandeliers and soda straws. We took lots and lots of pictures because if I didn't slow my family, I feel like they wouldn't have believed me. One cold and dreary day in January, I got home from an uneventful day at school. I never would have guessed what was about to happen or thought that this would ever happen to me. I was just a quiet freshman in high school. My father sat down with my family and told us that we were about to move to Texas. I was both shocked and a little excited to move because I’ve always wanted to go south.…

I hate that the bottom of the Grand Canyon has such good cell service. I finished hiking down ten miles of steep sedimentary rock, in what felt like a million degrees. Having ran out of cold water at mile seven, I was practically crawling for the remaining three. When we reached the bottom, my mother and I sat down at a picnic table and, in the absence of much else to do, I whipped out my phone and signed into the college board website—you know, what every millennial does in one of the most beautiful natural creations in the world. Looking back now, I’m amazed that in the midst of the Grand Canyon, the only thing I could think about was my AP score.…

The Magic of Montana As I walked through the wild roses and Indian Paintbrushes one early morning in the backwoods, I got caught up in the magic of Montana. At the beginning of this experience, I felt as if I was peaking in my wildlife field experience, but as I continued to work, my eyes were opened to the endless opportunities of life. I realized that this wonderful experience was just raising the bar for my future. I have always been so structured; thinking that I had to finish school before I started life. What I did not realize until now is that life started a long time ago, and there are no rules for the direction I go except for the ones I establish.…
