Explain Why A Wire And A Compass Work To Detect Electric Currents

Improved Essays
Q. Why do wire and a compass work to detect electric currents?

A. I’m going to start off with the basics here. A compass points north. Everyone knows that. Why does it point north? Well, all magnets have two “poles” or ends. One end of the magnet is called the north-seeking pole. The north-seeking pole is often abbreviated to north pole or the letter N. The north pole end of a magnet is usually colored red. The other end of a magnet is called the south-seeking pole. The south-seeking pole is often abbreviated to south pole or the letter S. The south pole end of a magnet is usually colored blue. Have you ever heard of the phrase “Opposites attract”? That’s accurate with magnets too. Let’s say that you had two magnets and you put them right

It was determined that the more surface area a mixture was spread over, the more iron was picked up by the magnet. The mass of the iron collected in its tray was 11.84 grams. Without the tray, it weighed 9.33 grams. Because the sand was not soluble in water, adding 100 mL of water to the mixture dissolved the salt. Pouring the mixture…

Magnets create magnetic fields, which can attract or repel metal objects. Magnets are utilized in motors, circuits, compasses, and can be used in many other applications. They are also used in something called the Gauss Rifle, which can use magnets to launch a projectile at high speed. It is made up of one or more magnet stages, which consists of a magnet and two ball bearings on one side. The number of magnet stages can determine how fast or how slow the projectile can go.…

The Chinese compass looked like a big circle with Chinese lettering on it. Some had a spoon looking thing in the middle, and others had an arrow looking thing in the middle. Another Chinese invention that helped with the invention of the compass was the kite. The kite was used for many things, but the one that I’m thinking of is how they used it to tell…

Antoine Roquentin’s feelings of “adventure” and Anny’s notion of “perfect moments” tie together throughout Nausea. Roquentin spends most of his time alone, self-analyzing, but it is through his adventure that he discovers what he has been missing. Unlike Roquentin, Anny had been chasing these “perfect moments” her whole life and by the end of the book, she feels as if she has run out of them. Anny and Roquentin’s lives seem to almost run parallel to each other, but going the opposite directions; Anny always seeking adventure then giving up on them and Roquentin finally seeking an adventure only to find they only exist once they’re over. Although entirely different concepts throughout Nausea, Roquentin’s “adventures” and Anny’s “perfect moments”…

Most of the student’s thinking was fairly accurate for the most part. There were some confusion on why, some metals do not attract magnets. In addition, the student’s thinking for the rule about how they think objects attract or have no effect on a magnet, were interesting. They all had their own way of interpreting the rule. We think that some of the student’s still don’t completely understand that, not all metals are attracted to magnets.…

The Core was a movie with both good and bad science. One example of bad science from the movie is a bunch of people with pacemakers dieing due to the disruption of the electromagnetic field. Even though a electromagnet disruption could stop a pacemaker from working according to futurity.org the earths magnetic field will never completely shut down. One example of both good and bad science is when a bunch of birds crash into a bunch of stuff also due to the disruption of earth's magnetic field. It is good science because according to nationalgeographic.org “ The trigeminal nerve which connects the bird's beak to its brain may also help them to evaluate the strength of the Earth’s magnetic field which helps them navigate.…

I was not surprised by the fact of my grade as the test was easy for me. The easiness isn 't due to the inability to accurately conduct the senses challenge online or the gullibility of the test taker but due to the fact I was raised in a sensory enhancing environment. The North Dakota environment influenced each of my senses in a positive enhancing matter that still affects me to this day.…

In the story “Hello, Darkness,” the author discusses how the invention of electricity has affected millions of people’s sleeping habits. The author says that the discovery of electricity basically ruined people’s sleeping schedules and lessened the amount of sleep someone would get per night. Now don’t get me wrong, the author is not downing electricity or trying to speak poorly of it, he is just stating the fact that with common electricity and all of the technology that we as a society have nowadays, it is easy for a person to get sidetracked and push sleep from the top of his/her priority list all to the middle or even the bottom.…

In Ben Franklin's experiments in search of static electricity, he found success (to an extent). In his first experiment, he made two people stand on wax and another person stand on the regular floor. One rubbed the tube and the other was drawing the fire. They appeared, to the person standing on the floor, to be electrised and he will perceive a spark. On his second experiment, he did the same as the first, except, they touched one another during the excitement of the tube, which resulted in no sighting of electricity.…

Compasses and straightedges are tools used regularly in geometry. Compasses are used to draw precise circles and arcs, leading to making many geometric figures. Straightedges are used to make straight lines that are exact measurements. There is a need for students to understand and be able to construct geometric figures using a compass and straightedge. This is because students will be able to understand the steps it takes to construct geometric figures, it allows students to understand how to use other geometric tools easier, and it is likely for less mistakes.…
