What the Second Amendment Means to Me
Eleven years after the war for independence for the United States of America, our founding fathers strongly felt that there was a need for a plan to govern our new nation. In 1787 the plan was ratified or approved, and became our U.S Constitution. After much debate in 1791, ten amendments were adapted in to the Constitution of the United States. They became known as the Bill of Rights.
The second amendment, which reads, “ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” is perhaps the most influential amendment in today’s society. The Second Amendment take on a great role of keeping our nation out of harms way and it diminishes our country’s losses at war as well as boosting our national security system.
I interpret the second amendment as the right of citizens to carry arms with out the authority of the government to intervene. However, there is an ongoing debate as to what the second amendment means and if it should be abolished. Survival relied upon the ability to hunt and put food on the table. It was also a very essential to be able to use them for self-defense from the tyranny of the government. If citizens were allowed to own guns, the government would have limited power. While there is lots of criticism about the right to bear arms, it is fundamental to the basic philosophies of this country.
