Lesson Plan Teach 1
Name: Spectra and Stars
Standard: Identify and compare characteristics of the electromagnetic spectrum such as wavelength, frequency, use, and hazards and recognize its application to an understanding of planter images and satellite photographs.
Objective: The students will be able to –
1. Recognize that white light is made up of a spectrum of many different colors.
2. Explain how different colors of light can be absorbed by colored filters.
Engage
1. Remembering- How would you define color?
2. Understanding- Can you explain why a colored filter shined by a light produces the same color of the filter?
3. Applying- What might happen if various colored light is overlapped?
4. Evaluating- Explain how white light is made

Evaluating- Compare the first demonstration using flashlights to the demonstration using the spectroscope, which one better explained the composition of white light? Explain your answer.
5. Creating- Suppose you only wanted green and red light to only show, what could you construct to make this possible?
Elaborate
1. Remembering- Define what white light is composed of?
2. Understanding- Explain what would happen if you view an image through a colored filter?
3. Applying- How can you apply what you learned to explain what color you see when looking at the image?
4. Evaluating- What information could you use to explain why looking at the image through a colored filter only reflects back that color?
5. Creating- How could you modify this demonstration to show the spectrum of colors in white light?
Evaluate
1. Remembering- List what you learned about white light?
2. Understanding- Explain what happened in all three demonstrations, what did the results conclude about color reflection?
3. Applying- Explain in your own words what happens to white light when a colored filter in placed in front of it?
4. Evaluating- What information learned from the demonstrations would you use to support that white light is composed of all colors?
5. Creating- Which demonstration would you improve on and how would you go about doing

In this experiment the scientists will measure the amount of Red 40 dye in sports drinks by using a spectrophotometer which consists of a circuit that has a white LED (light emitting diode) light and a photoresistor or light detector. A spectrophotometer measures light absorption. The scientist will be using this tool to create a calibration curve, test the wavelength and resistance of each sports drink, and by using the absorption spectrum they will measure the amount of Red 40 dye in each sports…

its color led to the formulation of this experiment. The experiment utilizes chloroplasts of spinach leaves to test the different color lights’ effects on photosynthesis. Green light is said to be the least effective at driving photosynthesis on the electromagnetic spectrum due to being mostly reflected and transmitted instead of being absorbed. Conversely, red light and white light is more effective at driving photosynthesis (Reece, 2011). Thus, a hypothesis was created stating that the rate of photosynthesis will be greater with a red light bulb compared to a green or white fluorescent light bulb.…
